Jook is part of a larger set of works that highlight family histories and memories in media, collectively representing my community in Homestead, FL-- the lens through which I explore loss of home, culture, and place, and invokes conversations surrounding gentrification and displacement. This piece documents a Black vernacular dance style from Miami called "jookin'," which is part of Miami Bass music. I was interested in capturing the filmic motion of the fabric like a traditional painting. It was acquired in a private collection.
