Canvas Cooler 2025

10 artists are given the challenge of transforming a blank canvas-wrapped Red Bull cooler into an inspired work of art.

LUMICUBE

by:
Stranger Cat (Cat Martino)
About the Exhibit:

LUMICUBE is a portal that transforms a familiar object into a threshold of color, motion, and perception. A cube of individually addressable LEDs wraps the cooler’s form, turning its edges into a luminous surface where gradients drift and the object briefly becomes something other than itself. The piece uses light as both structure and atmosphere, inviting viewers into a moment of pause, breath, curiosity, imagination, and expansion. It creates a quiet space where subtle shifts and metamorphosis can occur., reflecting my ongoing study of how light can transform the ordinary into a space for dreaming and becoming.

About the artist:

Stranger Cat is the interdisciplinary practice of Cat Martino, a Miami-based artist creating sculptural sound and light works and immersive environments shaped by perception, atmosphere, and transformation. Using LEDs, modern and organic materials, and sound, she builds luminous spaces that invite viewers into states of dreaming and expansion. Martino is also an acclaimed vocalist and composer who has performed and recorded internationally, from Carnegie Hall to Coachella, Sydney Opera House, NPR Tiny Desk, Saturday Night Live, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and has collaborated with artists including Sufjan Stevens, The Shins, Son Lux, and Sharon Van Etten.
