Rutamfi’s body of work combines character design, meta-animation, and mixed media to explore identity, technology, and contemporary culture. They lean into creating Superflat and hyper-stylized illustrations that look like something taken from a movie scene, Something that looks romanticized and almost out of reach. The layered fence is inspired by traditional animation techniques that use transparent sheets to create 2D cel-shaded anime.
Ruth Burotte Tamfee, known artistically as Rutamfi, is a Miami-based Haitian American artist. She holds a BFA in Art & Technology from New World School of the Arts at the University of Florida, and her practice merges traditional watercolor textures with digital processes inspired by postmodern animation and early 2000s DIY internet aesthetics. Through stylized, graphic characters, Rutamfi examines capitalist consumption, cultural hybridity, and the complexities of self-awareness in a hyper-mediated world. Her work has been featured in exhibitions, public art projects, and community-centered creative initiatives throughout South Florida, contributing to the region’s evolving visual landscape.
