Throughout the month of July, Mad Arts has had the privilege of working with Junior Achievement interns Alejandra Rubio and Jermaine Evans. Their contributions have been invaluable to our visitor service team and the administrative side of our operations.
Jermaine Evans is an enthusiastic and outstanding Junior Achievement Career Bound student with strong communication skills, technical proficiency, and leadership capabilities. He is eager to apply his diverse skill set in IT and marketing to secure an internship in computer science and business management. Beyond his professional pursuits, Jermaine is also a talented collage artist. He has been collaborating with our creative team at MadLabs to elevate his art, exploring ways to incorporate light into his creations.
Alejandra Rubio is a motivated student at College Academy with a passion for applying her diverse skill set in a professional internship. She is eager to make significant contributions and gain valuable insights alongside her peers in a dynamic work environment. At Mad Arts, Alejandra has been instrumental in enhancing our marketing and communication efforts, ensuring that our programs and events are prominently featured on event calendars across South Florida.
The following are a few key takeaways from their experience collaborating with Mad Arts:
Tours
“During our experience at Mad Arts, we have gotten to experience several tours given to third-party entities that Mad Arts hosts. Even though the exhibits have stayed the same during our time here, it has been a unique experience every time, with different people to guide us and different ways to explain the exhibit’s history. We learned new things about the exhibits with each run-through of the museum.”
Customer Service
“Every day, we were faced with new encounters with visitors to the museum. We had to adapt to each situation that came our way with a smile on our face, and if we didn’t know how, we had the rest of the staff to back us up and support us. We got to meet all different types of people in the Agency with different personalities and energetic attitudes towards making the project of the museum itself come together.”
Artist Negotiations
“Meeting visitors to the museum was not the only time we were faced with meeting new people who wanted to go to the museum. We also were part of artist negotiations, which helped us understand how deals and contracts with the museum were made. It made us see how helpful and beneficial the Mad Arts Museum was for artists and the good work that is being done here, helping new artists thrive in the space they’ve made.”
Workshop
“Whenever we were not faced with customers or artists, we still had plenty of work to do with Mad Arts, making the internship a well-rounded experience. We had to work with the staff to fix up exhibits, transport items, and even learn the process of making new exhibits. We had plenty of time and freedom to ask for help from professionals and be able to learn from them for our own benefit, bit by bit.”
