Clear Vision

This installation uses a one-way mirror to create the illusion of infinite space within a finite sculptural form — at turns chaotic, orderly, and empty. Inspired by the idea that the end of space marks the beginning of time, the work employs light, gravity, and perception to make visible forces that are typically intangible. Suspended in space, the sculpture invites viewers into a shifting perceptual experience that challenges physical and temporal boundaries.

Clear Vision was exhibited in 2019 in Brookhart Jonquil’s solo exhibition, Saturn Rings the Sunrise Bells, at the Cornell Art Museum. The sculpture is composed of a one-way mirror, glass, fluorescent lights, and painted steel (2019).

Clear Vision was also exhibited outdoors as part of IGNITE Broward 2026.

About the artist:

Miami artist Brookhart Jonquil’s work engages the immaterial worlds of space, light, gravity, and mind — subjects perceived only through their interaction with matter. His practice frequently incorporates glass, water, and optical materials to construct perceptual environments that both embrace and transcend physicality. Many works emphasize heavy materials held in tension or states of effortless equilibrium. His research draws from art history, ecology, cognitive science, and the natural world.

His projects have been commissioned by the Bass Museum of Art, the de la Cruz Collection, MoCA Tucson, Vizcaya Museum, and the Cornell Art Museum, among others.

Jonquil received his MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2010, where he was awarded a graduate fellowship. He holds a BFA in Studio Art and a BA in Art History from the University of Arizona.
