Rose Tinted

Opening September 18th and running through December 18, 2026, Rose Tinted: Nostalgia for a Life Not Lived is an immersive installation that invites audiences to question the authenticity of their own memories and the influence of media and cultural narratives on their sense of self. This work explores the haunting allure of nostalgia for a life not lived.

Through a dual-lens approach, combining 2D hand-drawn animation, gritty watercolor textures, and projection-mapped CGI, Rose Tinted blurs the line between reality and memory. Viewers are transported into animated “moments” that feel familiar yet are fabricated, prompting reflection on the seductive power of nostalgia, particularly through the lens of Slice of Life anime and Moe culture. The piece invites audiences to question whether the memories they long for are authentically theirs — or reflections shaped by media, fantasy, and desire.

This new work builds directly on the skills and vision Ruth developed in MAD Arts’ Projection Mapping Workshop, demonstrating the lasting impact of MAD Arts Academy educational initiatives by transforming professional development into a public-facing, high-quality art installation.

About the artist:

Born in 1998 in Queens, NY, and raised in Forest Park, GA, Ruth Burotte (RUTAMFI) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans character design, public art, and immersive installations. With a BFA in Art & Technology from New World School of the Arts at the University of Florida, Ruth blends traditional watercolor with digital media, creating stylized works that explore identity, technology, and society. Since 2018, she has played an integral role in Miami’s art scene, contributing to local and public art projects that reflect her humor and unique perspective.

Her work consistently challenges conventional archetypes by creating underrepresented characters — often Black and female — while engaging with themes such as bias, mental health, and generational trauma. With Rose Tinted, Ruth continues to shape the future of Miami’s artistic landscape. Her artist street name, RUTAMFI, is a play on her full name, “Ruth Burotte-Tamfee,” and Haitian Creole, which translates to “I’M FEMALE.”
