Join designers Fredrik Forrest and Martin Löfqvist from Untitled Services for the opening reception of their newly commissioned work, Dead Snow (Goasstejiegna). This deeply personal installation invites you to consider: What if you could step inside the Arctic without leaving South Florida? ‍

Bringing the Swedish Arctic to South Florida, Untitled Services recreates its vastness, silence, and extreme seasonal shifts through light, sound, and real-time digital landscapes. Using 3D scanning, machine learning, projection, and interactive controls, the installation lets you shape elements of the environment, from the sun and wind to your movement through the terrain.

But the Arctic doesn’t stay quiet for long. Without warning, the snow turns black, rain begins to fall, a red sun appears, and the soundscape takes a darker turn.

Commissioned by MAD Arts, this work invites you into an immersive encounter with a landscape that is constantly changing.‍

The feeling it evokes‍

The installation moves seamlessly between photorealism and abstraction, remixing and reinterpreting the Scandinavian Arctic tundra to evoke a feeling of emptiness and silence that exists only within that vast landscape. This sense of expansive emptiness is something that’s been recreated throughout art and design for generations, and is one of the cultural forces from which Scandinavian minimalism emerged. Research into natural environments suggests that landscapes like these can have measurable effects on human wellbeing, influencing stress levels, mood, and our sense of connection to place.

Most of the time, the installation is quiet and meditative. But briefly, and without warning, something shifts. A looming darkness descends. The snow turns black and begins to melt. Rain pours. The soundscape turns sinister. A red sun bleeds into the sky. Lights flicker. Jump cuts. And then, as quickly as it arrived, it passes.

Following its premiere,  the installation is expected to travel to additional international venues.
