Something extraordinary is growing in MAD Arts' digital garden. On Friday, August 7 and Friday, August 21, from 7:00-9:00 PM, MAD Arts invites guests to experience Ode to Tomato, an immersive dining event that transforms the story of Dania Beach into a playful, multi-sensory journey.
Ode to Tomato — created by artists Mark Espinoza, Liv Cook, and Astrid Marie with a multi-course menu by Chef Sam Diaz and narrative & concept by Rebecca Farfan — blends immersive digital environments, original storytelling, and a specially curated multi-course menu inspired by one of South Florida's most unexpected historical icons, the tomato.
Long before Dania Beach became known for its antiques and waterfront charm, it proudly held the title of the "Tomato Capital of the World." Ode to Tomato reimagines this history through the eyes of a whimsical cast of tomato characters whose journey mirrors the evolution of the city itself.
Rather than simply telling history, Ode to Tomato invites audiences to step inside it. Throughout the evening, immersive digital projections, animated storytelling, sound, and culinary creations work together to create an experience where every course becomes part of the narrative.
"Food has always been a way to tell stories," says the creative team. "Ode to Tomato celebrates the connections between place, memory, and community while inviting audiences to experience Dania Beach's history in an entirely new way."
Designed for food lovers, art enthusiasts, and curious explorers alike, Ode to Tomato reflects MAD Arts' commitment to creating innovative experiences that merge contemporary art, technology, and culture.

Founded in 2020, MAD Arts is a museum, community hub, and laboratory dedicated to art and technology. Through visionary exhibitions, immersive experiences, and collaborative projects, MAD Arts supports artists, collectives, nonprofits, and creative organizations in South Florida, Detroit, and beyond.
Ode to Tomato was developed through the Art & Tech Studio Program at MAD Arts by artists Mark Espinoza, Liv Cook, and Astrid Marie, with a multi-course menu by Chef Sam Diaz, and narrative & concept by Rebecca Farfan. The program provides emerging and mid-career artists with the resources, mentorship, and platform to expand their creative practice through ambitious interdisciplinary projects.
More than a dining experience, Ode to Tomato is part of MAD Arts' commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for artists by helping them continue developing new work and building long-term creative careers. Organizations interested in presenting Ode to Tomato or collaborating on future touring opportunities are encouraged to contact MAD Arts to learn more.
