Apply for a one-of-a-kind creative workshop supported by Notch, where you’ll develop a practical understanding of how to think, experiment, and make creative decisions when working with moving image in immersive environments.

BONUS: Participating artists will receive a one-year Notch license to continue developing their practice beyond the workshop. Selected works or projects developed during the workshop may also be considered for presentation as part of IGNITE Broward 2027.

Aimed at artists, designers, and creators with a professional background in digital content creation, this workshop is designed to combine collective sessions, practical exercises, and individual guidance.

Participants should already have experience developing and producing moving image, animation, 3D, motion design, digital art, or related forms of visual content.

No previous experience with Notch, TouchDesigner, or other real-time software is required. Experience with 3D software, real-time tools, projection, installation, or immersive environments is a plus, but the main criteria are a strong artistic eye, creative drive, and an interest in exploring image beyond the conventional screen.

*Note: Discounted lunch rates are available for participating artists.

This workshop is made possible with the support of Notch, a next-generation, natively GPU-accelerated graphics powerhouse with all the features you expect to find in a modern motion design tool. Notch lets you create without the wait, rendering motion design and visual effects in real-time. Learn more at www.notch.one or follow them on Instagram at @notchvfx.

General workshop schedule

Morning sessions

The workshop introduces participants to the creative principles and methodologies behind developing visual content for immersive spaces. Rather than focusing on mastering a specific software, the sessions will explore how moving images behave when they leave the conventional screen and become part of an architectural or spatial environment.

The emphasis throughout the workshop will be on artistic approach, spatial thinking, and experimentation. We will explore both 2D and 3D workflows, focusing primarily on pre-rendered content while introducing principles and approaches that can also be applied to real-time pipelines. As real-time production is one of the most technically demanding approaches to immersive content, it will be addressed conceptually and through workflow examples rather than as a practical requirement of the workshop.

Participants will work with tools and techniques they are already familiar with while exploring how their existing visual practice can be translated into an immersive context.

Day 1 — Thinking spatially

Introduction to immersive visual environments and the differences between creating for a conventional screen and creating for a space.

We will explore scale, composition, movement, rhythm, perspective, and the relationship between image and architecture, looking at examples from our own practice as well as other references.

Participants will begin developing a visual idea or approach specifically conceived for the immersive space.

Day 2 — From image to immersive space

Practical exploration of how existing or newly created visual material can be adapted and developed for an immersive environment.

We will work with 2D and 3D approaches to spatial composition, continuity between surfaces, visual transitions, loops, and movement. We will also look at how these principles translate across pre-rendered and real-time workflows, and at the different creative and technical considerations involved in each approach.

Participants will develop and test rendered material in the immersive space, observing how scale and spatial context transform the perception of the image.

Day 3 — Building an immersive experience

Participants will continue developing and refining their work directly in the immersive environment, considering rhythm, duration, scale, visual continuity, and the position and experience of the viewer within the space.

The final session will focus on testing, adjusting, and discussing the different approaches developed during the workshop, concluding with a collective viewing and feedback session.

The objective is not necessarily to produce a finished artwork in three days, but to develop a practical understanding of how to think, experiment, and make creative decisions when working with moving image in immersive environments.

About
Desilence

A Barcelona-based visual art studio (Tatiana Halbach and Søren Christensen) creating immersive projects for public art, projection mapping, installations, and stage productions.

Desilence is a Barcelona-based visual art studio founded by artists Tatiana Halbach and Søren Christensen. Working at the intersection of digital painting, moving image, light, sound, and space, the studio creates immersive visual projects for public art, projection mapping, performances, installations, and stage productions.

Their practice combines an artistic sensibility rooted in painting with a deep interest in perception, atmosphere, and the emotional potential of technology. Over the past two decades, Desilence has developed a distinctive visual language situated between abstraction and figuration, transforming architecture and space into living, poetic environments.
